Payback, it seems, is not a bitch.

April 7, 2010

So many of you know I’m opposed to getting dressed which considering how much I lurve clothes, shoes, handbags, sunglasses, makeup, Spanx and pretty much anything else you can think of, (barring pantyhose-those I loathe) it may seem a trifle odd that I hate getting dressed.

For reals. Lots of my clothing is dry clean only so why I am going to dirty it up sitting around my house, going to Kroger or Target, or going to a friend’s house for wine. It’s simple. I’m not. Plus, it’s not like many of my clothes are super comfortable. PJ’s are. So I wear them lots. I was all set to order some pajama jeans at the behest of Southern Fried Snark, but then I read this post  and the urge passed.

Moving on. So yesterday bratchild and I were having a portrait taken by Allison Jansen Photography for which we totally wore matching Lilly Pulitzer dresses (yes, I do realize I said I never would do that and considering that plus the fact that I baked cupcakes I am WAITING for the hubs to slice me open to see if I have robot insides.)

We had our pictures taken at the lumber yard, which is in her studio’s backyard essentially and I am in head over heels adoration of this space. I absolutely love the rusticness and quirkiness of it and think the pictures are going to be AMAZING. Check out the gallery in the link for some pics. It’s a pretty nifty space. If I get married again, totally having the reception here. (I also am in complete and total awe of my hubs so despite my love for weddings and planning events, sadly I will not be having another one.)

Pictures were at 4:30 so that meant that in order for my hair to NOT be glued to my head and to give me porn star hair, I should have put velcro rollers in…ummm…sometime last Wednesday. Instead I went with noon.

Because my head STILL hurt from bratchild’s assassination by shit perfume attempt, I decided to see if I could embarrass her when I picked her up at school.

So I went to the car pool line like so:

In case it’s not clear, I am sporting a full-length gray robe, about 15 velcro rollers, not a swipe of makeup, flip-flops, and Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses. I am also going commando and we should ALL be relieved that my lack of undergarments is not clear in this photo. That would take this blog a whole new direction I don’t think I am entirely comfortable with-and I hope none of you are either.

Bratchild’s response? Nada. I had at LEAST expected a, “nice mom.” But I got nothing.

I was whining to J about this when I got home and he’s all, “Wow. She’s not even 9 and you can’t even offend her anymore. You’re losing your touch.”

I almost cried. If she’s immune to my antics now, what about when she’s older and trying to date? I guess I’m going to have to ramp up my (mis)behavior. Scary.

I did come by it naturally. My mother used to drive us to school in a 2 seat Fiero,  with my sister and I smashed into the passenger seat while she drove us clad in a fur coat, rollers, and pj’s.

Yours truly was the first to have a wedding reception at the Lumberyard. 🙂 Guess I have good taste!

You’re kind of my hero. Also? Will you adopt me? Or at least come to my house in a robe, rollers, D&G sunglasses, a tiara, a feather boa and drink wine?

Fun photos in Lily dresses! Loving the rollers…I have never tried that…my kids would die to not notice at all…maybe I’ll try it just for kicks.

You should give it a whirl just to see their response.

I dunno, I’m a little sad she’s no longer embarrassed by you, although perhaps she’s numbed herself as a remarkably smart child and realized it’s only going to get worse and therefore, she should steel herself now… Either way, maybe it’s the loss of innocence….which is always sad…only…not

Hi. Visiting from SITS. Very funny. I wouldn’t have the guts to go like that to my daughter’s school.
